The weather is really in the Cinderella zone for me right now. Warmish, sunny days that aren’t too hot. Nice, well behaved clouds in the sky that sometimes drop a little rain with some rumbles of thunder, but nothing really scary like hail and tornados. I’ve been working outside a little every day and I’m making progress on the yards. Today I tried to grab some pictures to show the emerging life out there; a huge bumblebee and some butterflies stopped by, but they were too dodgy for me to grab a picture. My usual squirrel companion was taking a nap somewhere and nowhere in sight. Still, there is life just waiting to bust out all over in my yards. I did find this…

This is the first year that this catmint plant will not have a cat munching on its leaves and sleeping in its shade. It’s kind of bittersweet to see the plant doing so well without the cat abuse. I have begun the hunt for a new kitten; I applied to adopt a couple of kittens this week, but it looks like it is a long shot right now as lots of other people also applied. (Okay, they are too cute for words, and I am dying that I’m not likely to get them…). There will be more kittens, and in time this plant will again have a feline companion.

Things are definitely picking up outside. My neighbors are repairing the fences between our yards and I’m doing what I can to help. Mostly I loan tools and hand over money. 🙂 I’m hoping to get lots of weeding done before the heat arrives next month. Gosh, these windows of moderate weather are so brief here… with some luck flower beds will be weeded and sprinkled with flower seeds in the next couple of weeks.
Good days in a sad time continue.
Have a good week, everyone. Be safe.
Thanks for the pictures! 🙂 I’ve never heard catnip refered to as catmint before. 🤔 I wonder if it will grow where I live.
I’m not sure, but they might be different plants. I’ll have the check it out. The cats do love catmint!!
Myself, I’d rather hand over money than weed ..
Me too, especially since the sunshine makes me! My neighbors asserte all of work and losing money right now, so it works out.
Long may it continue .. 🙂
I’ll keep my fingers crossed some kittens arrive soon for you. My cats didn’t seem to like catnip, but my mum’s cat Minnie would get super high on the stuff. Catnip is in the mint family where is why it is often sold as catmint as well.
Good to see you getting out
I hope the kitten that is meant for you turns up quickly:)
Lovely garden photos!
I just heard back from them… my application was approved and they will send me info on how to meet the kitties. They maintain strict Covid protocols, so it all sounds good!!!
I am so excited for you:) Maybe there will be a kitty nibbling on the cat mint this summer.
That’s the plan!
I love your photos. I hope you find your kitten soon (or your kitten finds you, as it often goes).
Thank you. The kitten for me will come. 🙂
sooo happy to read that you are having good days! 🙂
It has been great!
🙂 yay! 🙂
My catmint is blooming and starting to take off. My husband looked at a garden in our back yard and thought things did not survive over the winter. I told him to give it a week since we had some cold weather. He went out today and was so pleased to see things sending out buds.
That’s what is happening in my yard too. It’s amazing what a few warm days can do.
I had a planter full of catnip at the apartment – it looked different from your catmint. Of course, it was ragged and chewed by neighbor cats. That may have stunted it. Your catmint is much taller.
I googled about these two plants, catnip and catmint, and discovered that they are related but different plants
Catmint is more ornamental, but cats love the more ragged catnip more. They love to burrow into and eat catmint, however!!
Your catmint photo is gorgeous. We haven’t had a flowering mint for a long time for the very reasons you describe. I hope you find a new kitty to share your home with, soon. I wonder if a slightly older cat might be easier to find? Best of luck either way. I hope your lovely weather continues.
I just heard back from the adoption agency and I get a kitten!! I just emailed to set up the appointment!! So excited; I told them I want two kittens, and that seems lau with them.
I am SO happy for you! Two kittens is perfect. I’ve always had at least two cats. I’m looking forward to future kitten posts.
I like to have two cats at a time, too. Sadly, it is not looking too good for those kittens at the moment. I contacted the foster mom as soon as I was given her name, and she responded that she was still waiting on the other people she had send appoints to ahead of me. Nothing more… doesn’t seem like I’ll get one of these as there were only 9 kittens involved.
Take heart. It’s kitten season after all, and now that you are in the que, hopefully you won’t have long to wait.
I think that those kittens are gone as I have never heard back about a time slot to visit them. There will be others… I think that the high kitten season is sometime in June, so there is still lots of time.
Beautiful photos! It looks like all your plants are doing really well 🙂 Your catmint will have a new cat to chew on it soon, you’ll see!
I am selective about what I photograph… there are a lot of weeds out there at the moment! 🙂 It’s looking better about the kitten!!
