Hannah and the CoalBear: We May Need an Intervention Soon…

I just love hanging out in the catio every morning!!

The Mother of Cats has been staying home with us every single day lately. Why is this happening? Look at what is going on in the afternoons…

Yep. It is really hot, the air pressure is pretty darn low, and the Mother of Cats doesn’t do very well when the air gets like that. Hey, I’m a cat. I just roll with it and spend the day sleeping, but for some reason the Mother of Cats stays awake all day and does stuff.

Hannah: Do you see me?

To be fair, she does give me lots of attention and cookies, but mostly she crafts ENDLESSLY. There is so much going on, and the CoalBear and I are starting to get a little concerned.

She has been working on her quilt. I like the quilting, and I help her as much as I can. Look at the two quilt blocks that she has been working on over the last two weeks.

The next cat that is featured in the quilt will be a tuxedo like me. Not as cute as me, but still, it is nice that she will have a quilt showing how absolutely superior tuxedo cats are. I think that there is also a squirrel and a tree involved, so that is perfect, right?

Now, let’s get to the knitting. That is where things have really gotten out of control. First there are the shawls…

That’s right: four shawls!!! The first one was really fussy and hard on the Mother of Cats hands, so she ripped it out. (Good job, Mother of Cats) She said that she obviously can’t be expected to knit a shawl that was too complicated to let her listen to an audiobook or watch Netflix

Mateo: I’m terrified of Netflix!!! That huge red N is too much for me to deal with. No one should be subjected to the…TA-DUM!!!!
Hannah: but Mateo rushes into the room EVERY TIME the television gets turned on just in case it is… NETFLIX. CoalBears can be so silly.

Let’s get back to the shawls. The Mother of Cats has a lot of yarn. She isn’t making hats right now because it is hot, and there are too many hats at the infusion centers right now, so she decided to make a shawl or two. Since the first shawl was soooo complicated, she started a simple Age of Gold shawl in pink yarn. Then she started a Sharon Show shawl because she saw one hanging up in the yarn store. Then Tabby Road started, so she had to knit on that, right. This is just kind of insane because at the same time…

The Mother of Cats decided to knit some octopuses… Yep. All of that yarn has now been wound. Hold onto your tuna treats, because I’m not done yet. The Mother of Cats, still upset about not knitting hats, and hugging a huge box of left over yarn balls (why doesn’t she give them to me?), decided to start knitting a BLANKET that will be made of a bunch of different octogons that kind of go together.

She made this holding two little balls of yarn together while she knitted. Did she let me chew the yarn while she worked? No. SHE DID NOT!!!!

Do you see why I am concerned about needing an intervention? She has been crafting nonstop for days in a row. Okay, it has been really, really hot for days in a row, but still. NOTHING is getting finished and she just keeps picking up yarns and starting new projects when she isn’t fusing down little pieces of fabric for the quilts. HELP!!!

I’m pretty sure that I need an intervention here.

Also, some tuna would be nice!!

  1. Hi Hannah! I think the MOCs is making good use of her time indoors. Maybe she could let you chomp on some scrap yarn…kitties like crafting, too.

    Hi Mother of Cats! The yarn choices are beautiful. I have a partially completed Sharon Show shawl. I found it is great for practicing colorwork and working on your yarn tension. The Joji shawl in my Ravelry…maybe I’ll be inspired to knit it. I look forward to seeing what the Tabby Road develops into.

    I’ve been slowly returning to knitting and spinning. My crafting time has been a challenge but I am making a concerted effort to set aside time to knit and spin.

    Your beautiful weaving in a previous post inspired me to start creating again. Eventually, I’d like to learn to weave.

    I hope you, Hannah and Mateo have a wonderful week ahead.

    1. Hannah: I know, right? She should understand my needs and let me craft right along with her!

      The weaving!!! I need to pull that out and work on it some today. So. Many. Crafts. I have all of the knitting out in separate craft bins so I remember to rotate between them and keep working. I already finished the clue for Tabby Road, so I can work on the other two shawls this week while I’m waiting for the next one to drop on Friday. The Joji shawl is really mindless knitting once you get it set up, and the Sharon Show has lots of fun colors and textures in it that make it interesting while knitting to an audiobook.

      When I was still working I set aside one hour for crafting every evening so I could knit and watch a television show. It really helped me manage the stress of a job with little work/life balance. Now, of course, I get to binge watch way too much!

    1. II know, but sometimes I feel like I have to strike when the iron is hot. If I am feeling pretty good and have the energy, I really overachieve. When I hit a hard patch, I have some books lined up to see me through. I struggle when I’m in a lull after finished a major project and book at the same time. This time I responded by launching all the projects at once!!

    1. Today the heat is better and there is a cold front on the way. That’s the good news. The bad news is… the temperature dropped because the air is full of smoke and the sun is a sullen orange ball in the sky. My heart breaks for everyone affected by the fires.

      The cat quilt is going to be really nice when it is done. I am already planning on redoing a room to let it take center stage next to my loom.

    1. Thank you. The quilt designer is really talented and I’m using a kit that utilizes her fabrics which makes it easier. It finally cooled down a little today. Yay!! Knitting weather!!

    1. Heat is a big problem because it makes the air pressure drop and there is less oxygen in each breath because the air is less dense. I really feel for the folk who are in hotter (and smokier) situations than I am. This is a terrible summer for many people.

      I do hope that things get better soon.
