Hi. I’m Mateo.

The Mother of Cats has been really busy outside, and after days and days of messing around on the catio WITHOUT LETTING ME OUT!!! she finally put away her little pink tool bag, opened the door, and let us out onto the catio. My long, long period of suffering was over. Bunny, here I come!!!

Wow. She was really busy out here. There are plants, and a new wall of netting that keeps me in the catio (which is also absolutely unnecessary) so I can’t play with my friends out in the yard. Gosh. There sure is a lot to report on!!

The Mother of Cats has been at work cleaning out the gardens and putting new plants everywhere. A lot of the plants from indoors have moved out here, and it really is kind of nice out here now. She bought a new rose bush!! There certainly is a lot of wildlife in the yard by the catio… maybe they like the flowers too.

There is lots and lots of action over by the birdfeeders in the yard. Birds of all different kinds have been visiting the feeder and hang out in the yard. There are robins, and blue jays, and doves, and BLACKBIRDS that make a nice sound, and lots of little finches. Hannah just LOVES watching the birds, and even though she asked the Mother of Cats really nicely to let her out of the catio to GO GET THEM she hasn’t relented. Why does the Mother of Cats do this? I tell you, someone needs to step in to keep all of this wildlife under control. The bunny in particular has become incorrigible.

The bunny sleeps in the Mother of Cats front flower bed and she ATE all of the plants down to the roots. She is harvesting grass from the lawn and comes right up to Hannah at the catio on her way to her little home under the deck. She has been really busy all day today, and the Mother of Cats thinks that means that there are more baby bunnies on the way. That would be kind of nice as there is only one baby now, and he might be a little lonely. I should go out and play with him, right? That would be a nice thing to do…

The Mother of Cats says it looks like the garden needs to be weeded, but she also says that she can only do so much at a time. She left us yesterday and came back with a new lawnmower which seems kind of mean because the bunny likes the grass long, and I DON’T LIKE LAWNMOWERS!!! Like, they are so much worse than vacuums, right? Why would she do such a thing. Forget the lawnmower and weed the garden, Mother of Cats!!
Well, that is everything that is going on here. I spend all of my spare time out on the catio, and the Mother of Cats keeps working out in the yard and reading books. Does the Mother of Cats knit? No, she does not. Hannah kind of misses the yarn, but maybe this is just a phase and the Mother of Cats will be get back to knitting soon. I do have to mention… some new yarn did come in the mail last week… someday soon she will knit again.
Oh, wait a minute… the baby bunny is out in the grass again… kind of busy here… gotta go…

This is Mateo, signing off.

Note from the Mother of Cats:
I have been making fingerless mitts on my Addi knitting machine and tomorrow I am going to a scleroderma conference and will take some to give away to other patients. My wrists are slowly getting better, and I am hopefully buying yarn to make a couple of sweaters… someday…
I did have to use some bunny deterrent to keep Little Miss out of the flower beds. Cinnamon. Cinnamon works great! The rabbit now sits sadly in the grass right next to the garden, watching me with a betrayed look whenever I go out front…
Wait until the lawn mower comes out, bunny!!
I love your catio. What a great idea. Great pictures.
Thanks! The cat netting was simple to do, but hard on my wrists. It was worth it, and the finished catio is just perfect for my needs.
Yes! to your wrists slowly getting better. I love the pictures you’ve posted. Thank you for those.
I have no water in the house because, the local water dep’t emergency plumber told me, I probably have a chunk of corrosion (galvanized pipes) damming up the works, so I need to get off the computer and try a few of his suggestions for clearing the possible plug before calling the plumber for next week. Ugggh! Wish me luck!
Oh, no. I hate plumbing issues!!!
Bunnies are sooo cute. Even when they were chewing holes in my lawn a few years ago, it was hard to be mad at them. I did try some deterrents, and nothing worked. Didn’t know about cinnamon back then; will have to keep that in mind for the next time. I don’t have nearly that much going on in my backyard, but then, I’m too lazy to establish a catio, keep a bird feeder filled, plant flowers, deter bunnies, etc. Whew, I’m tired from just typing all that. Mateo, see to it that MoC doesn’t overdo it; she sounds extremely busy.
I have to admit that the housecleaning is suffering while I’m out working in the yard, but I am happy to be making progress out there. I am learning about bunny deterrents. I planted creeping thyme along the driveway because evidently bunnies hate it, and then the stuff on the lawn is a mixture of cinnamon and thyme. The bunnies go to great lengths avoiding stepping on the lawn, and the grass is starting to recover. I had bunnies from down the block and down the street all hanging out in my yard, and they were digging and rolling in the dirt along with chomping grass down to the roots. Whew. Lots of work has been going on out front. I was told that blood meal will do the trick too, but I am using straight cinnamon in the flowerpots (big container from Sam’s Club) and that works while smelling good at the same time.
My goodness it’s like having your own 3D wildlife movie to watch out there and with balcony seats. Fabulous work by the MoC to set that up for you both.
Best show ever! I put out fresh bird seed every morning and then watch the show with the kitties while I drink my latte. 🙂
I enjoyed your update and as always, I’m impressed with how much you get done in such a short time. Your kitties look pretty content, even though they can’t access the adorable bunnies. We recently added a catio to our side yard, but in our case, it’s a place for our cats to feel safe from my son’s dog. My son is moving home while he looks for a job. We adore the pooch but the cats aren’t impressed
My sister lately moved to coyote country and installed a catio that connects to a window for her cat. I tried to figure out how to do that at my house, but the most economical way to handle the needs of the kitties was to redo the catio again as I’m using a deck and the old framework from a pergola. .
Well done you, Marilyn: that amount of hard yakka would be boast-worthy by a fully fit person !! The house cleaning is suffering, you say ? – you need a large dose of reality, woman !!! 🙂
Mateo, I see you are about to start taking off your nice warm winter coat: where will you lay it down ? My guess is absolutely everywhere. [grin]
Oh, all that wildlife, lucky you ! I think the squirrels are my faves, although your bunny is very cute. What’s the most bunnies you’ve ever had ?
Hannah remains gorgeous, of course – and kind of superior. But then, she has a very superior mum.
Mateo is leaving puffs of black fur EVERYWHERE!! it is the most obvious sign that I’m lagging on housework. The squirrels are really, really cute! Today a big fluffy one chased off the birds so he could hog the food.
I’m so ashamed of you for falling behind on the housework – NOT !!
Give yourself a break every twenty years or so, Marilyn !!! 🙂
🙂 I dusted today! The floor is still covered with little black fur puffs… I sonder who could be doing this??
Oh, that’s obvious: it’s the Black Fur Puff Devils – those horrid little things that spend their time trying to put the blame on innocent rather large moggies … 😉
What a naughty bunny. Glad your wrists are improving!
I’m sure that bunny has been getting up to a lot of mischief, but she sure is cute! Very brave, too, to have that face-off with Hannah.
So glad you are all able to get outside again! Cute bunny and other wildlife, and Mateo and Hannah are as beautiful as every 🙂
