Did I say that this was the Saturday update? No, no, no. This is the Caturday update!! As in, after weeks of submitting applications and trying to make the arrangements to get a kitten (with friends, neighbors, and family helping out) today I met my kitten and brought her home!
I actually scored a kitten earlier in the week, but decided to pass because the exchange had to be made in a PetSmart across the metro area that did not have mandatory mask requirements. I called the store to ask if the customers work masks there, and the man in charge of adoptions laughed at me. The employees don’t even wear masks in this store! Yep. It was a nice looking kitty, but not worth the risk. The Cat Care Society takes these things much more seriously, and they set up an appointment with me to come view kittens this afternoon. The experience was perfect and completely non contact!! Hannah is exactly what I wanted, too. She trills! She makes sure she knows where I am at all times, and she wants to sleep on the bed with me. She is playful, but not manic. She ignored the monster orchid. It remains to be seen how she acts around knitting, but so far she is 100% the perfect pet for me!
So, let’s see. What else happened this week? The weather was difficult with days of wild wind and thunderstorms. My symptoms flared and I spent a couple of days in bed. There was some knitting, but not that much as I mostly stayed in bed listening to my audiobook. Every time I start listening to an audiobook I fall asleep… It was quite the week, all in all.
Knitting
.Not only does this cowl go perfectly with my new V-Neck Boxy sweater, but it matches both of my winter coats. I’m going to get a lot of mileage out of this cowl!! The only other knitting was this: I got so cold this week that I cast on some new armwarmers that I am kind of inventing as I go along. Next week I’ll show them off.
Garden
The poor garden! The wind was so wild and the rain was so violent that there aren’t any petals on my roses that managed to bloom. The rose bushes took damage and I had to stake several branches and prune away others. I suspect that there might be some bug actions going on, too. Ugh. I noticed this afternoon that there is some recovery happening in the back so maybe by the middle of the week I’ll have something to show off. There is an English rose that I have high hopes for…
Style Arc is new to me, but I’m so glad that I found them on Amazon. I bought some other patterns that I will use to make simple summer capris and tops using more fabric that I have stashed away. Hey, if ever there was someone ready to stay home FOR MONTHS, that person was me!!
Oh, yeah. I killed an orchid this week too. I don’t want to talk about it, but it was one of my favorites, the rose gold orchid. 😦 It just goes to show that when a week decides to misbehave, it really misbehaves!!
Books
Sigh. Still reading. Nothing is finished. I had some trouble staying awake this week… Still, the weather has improved the last two days, I’m feeling much better, and there is a kitten who wants to hang out with me now. I’m sure to finish a book eventually.

But the news of the year is Hannah ! – she is utterly sweet and adorable, and knows you already. Soon she will love you, too; and then life will be as good as it can at times like these. (Re catching the moths: be careful not to stand under a moth on the ceiling, OK ? – when my late husband inadvertently did that, our cat of the time simply ran straight up him, like a ramp. Unhappily, claws hadn’t been clipped .. I was also in the shit for an hour or so, because I couldn’t stop laughing. [grin]
Oh, no! I can see the cat launching straight up as I write this. I was so over the moths this week that i sucked some up in the vacuum yesterday as I kitten-proofed the house. The only good result of all that wind was the mouth population blew off to another state and it is better now.
Then you’re safe. Until the next invasion .. [grin]
Happy cat day! I love little Hannah. Do I see a little tiny bit of attitude in those pretty eyes? The cowl is lovely too but the Montana shift is something else. I want one! It will have to wait though because Adelaide is very frosty at present (minus temps overnight). I love the colour and it looks beautifully lightweight and filmy. You look a little better in your photos. It’s cat power I think so hope you continue to pick up

I’ve now been on oxygen for exactly 3 months and I am feeling much better (well, ignoring this week…); I’m glad to hear I’m looking better!
The dress is a simple pull over your head one. Just perfect for summer! I struggled with sewing the shoulders until I discovered an online tutorial by Style Arc; I’m going to the web site to look for more technique support when I sew the next outfit.
Where would we all be without the consultative faculties of Dr Google ?, I ask. 😀

Evidently our wind event was a derecho; I’d never heard of it before and had to look it up. We’re entering severe thunderstorm season, which can be pretty interesting, so I’m hoping for boring weather too! I haven’t tried to knit yet but I’m hopeful. I may need to stick to sewing for a while.

She was a failed adoption returned to the shelter: lucky for me! The dog at the other place didn’t like her. She craves a lot of attention so I’m betting that the dog was too possessive to share the owner. It’s a good fit with me as I wanted a kitten that would be a good companion.

I’m so happy for both of you. Hannah is adorable. My son adopted a dog this weekend…it must be in the air. He was wearing a mask when he sent pictures, so I was relieved. You were smart to call ahead. It’s beyond me why everyone doesn’t wear a mask when all the reading supports the benefits. I’m sorry about the unfortunate days of bed rest, but I’m glad your are now up and around. Big hug from Cali.
A dog! Yay! I’m glad he was wearing a mask too. I am so over people who refuse to wear masks! I only go to places that require them, and people come in mask-less anyway. I think that it is because of poor messaging and leadership.
Poor leadership, and a certan lack of self-awareness too. I’m also over it. I man stepped in front of me today: no mask, no attention to the markers…oblivous. I took a step back, mask in place, and waited. Sigh.

Hannah: I already tried to play with some yarn and she took it away from me! She is afraid I will eat it. She did let me play with a moth I caught last night and I already have my very favorite toy. Life is good!!

Hannah: last night I bit right through some yarn while she was knitting! Now she is making it even harder for me to get the yarn, but it is all okay because she is giving me more toys to play with, Yay.

When I met her in the kitten room the name just popped into my head. She is so cute, so perfect for me, and she was the last kitten left, passed over by everyone else. How lucky I was to get her!!
Glad you like the dress. I had that batik fabric from a quilt show years ago and wanted a simple cotton dress that didn’t look frumpy. I found that pattern on Amazon. 🙂
