MacKenzie Speaks: First Day of Fall

Hi. I’m MacKenzie.

The Mother of Cats says that the seasons changed today and that fall has arrived. Whatever. Is that a type of cookies?

The Mother of Cats and I went outside to water all of the plants today and I must say that the flowers all look the same to me, and the squirrels are as frisky as ever, but there IS something going on with the trees…

The leaves are starting to look funny!!

I’m not sure why fall is a big deal, but the Mother of Cats is knitting faster then ever. She says crazy stuff like Winter is Coming! and I need more sweaters! The Mother of Cats can be really confusing sometimes… Anyway, she worked like crazy over the weekend and look at what she got finished:

That’s right. Soft fluffy cashmere blend mash-up socks.

If the Mother of Cats loved me she would let me have these socks to put in my bed, but NOPE! she won’t take them off her feet. Why is the Mother of Cats so very selfish? She says that they are for her to sleep in on cold nights, but it isn’t even a little cold and she is wearing them right now. Selfish Mother of Cats!! I want my own cashmere sleeping socks, too!! Well, I want them to sleep on, but you get the idea.

I’m such a good boy!

Can I have some cookies now?

>^..^<

Notes from the Mother of Cats:

These socks are a mash up of three other socks patterns. The details are on my Ravelry project page.

Check out the garter stitch heel on these babies. They aren’t sturdy, but boy are they soft, comfy, and warm! Look at that cashmere halo on them!

To MacKenzie’s disgust I haven’t started knitting the second sleeve on my Koivua sweater. I went crazy and cast on another sweater. It’s too soon to talk about it, but here’s a teaser showing off the knitted fabric and one of the stitch markers I made to go with it.

I had to start this sweater right away because it kind of screams “Fall!” Seriously. I need this sweater immediately. I’ll get that other sleeve finished before the end of the month…

Happy Fall, everyone!

  1. Look at your leaves!! We have just the tiny hint of color change. Of course it was 89f here yesterday so it didn’t feel like fall.
Your socks are lovely! The cashmere must be the softest socks ever:)
MacKenzie: Of course the Mother Of Cats is knitting sweaters. She doesn’t have a lovely fur coat like you:)

    1. It is still hot here too! Most of the leaves are still green, but there were a few on the ground that had changed so I got the shot. Later in the fall my maple tree will turn to fabulous reds and golds.

MacKenzie: this is why it is good to be a cat!

  2. MoC – the socks looks great, and so cozy! The new sweater fabric is pretty – can’t wait to see what it’s part of!
MacKenzie – you are such a good helper! Thanks to your assistance, Mother of Cats will soon have more snuggly sweaters and socks to keep you both warm when this mysterious “winter” gets there 🙂

    1. The socks are just perfect. I’m digging in the stash to find some more cashmere blend sock yarn today. When winter finally gets here I will be ready!!

MacKenzie: this is true. I am wonderful. I just want to point out that a knitted cat bed would be really snuggly this winter too!

      1. They are lovely socks – good idea to have more on hand for when winter hits!
MacKenzie – you are right about the knitted cat bed. Maybe try talking to Mother of Cats about it?

  3. Ohhh, MacKenzie! You are SOO handsome! I don’t know how the Mother of Cats can refuse you anything. ❤️ I sure do love those socks, though, so I can’t blame her for wanting to wear them. And a new sweater! Most exciting!!

    1. MacKenzie: I don’t understand why the Mother of Cats is so mean to me either. I’m the best boy in the world and I deserve unlimited cookies and more yarn to chomp!!

MK: the socks have already been washed and are ready for another wearing. Love that cashmere!
