Hannah and the CoalBear: She’s Knitting Again

Hi. I’m Hannah.

It has been a really long week.

What a week, what a week. The Mother of Cats had been sad for days and days because she could not knit. It has been awful. She kind of moped around and didn’t take good care of the CoalBear and me. She forgot our TUNA one night!!! Her hand had been slowly getting better, but her knees suddenly got cranky and she hadn’t been going up and down the stairs so much. She tried to read a book, but she decided it was boring. I finally moved into bed with her and tried to groom her, but she just hid under the covers, so I groomed one of her sweaters to make it fluffy. Why did that make her cranky? What is wrong with this Mother of Cats? Maybe she should eat more tuna…

Look at what the Mother of Cats did!!! She gave me a chicken to groom and sleep with. My very own chicken!!! I love my chicken, yes I do. The week was starting to look a little better when…

The Mother of Cats found a leak under the kitchen sink. No. This is bad! There was a lot of commotion, and then this scary man came and worked on the pipes and replaced the garbage disposal. (Mateo the CoalBear told me: I DID NOT come out of the closet for the whole day!) The Mother of Cats had to do some cleaning and laundry, and I was hoping that things were getting better. Then it started snowing and snowing outside…

There is almost 2 feet of snow there on the catio. Once again, my informant is Mateo, because there was NO WAY I was going out in that stuff.

So, the Mother of Cats had to go out and clear snow. I was a little worried, but she wore her braces and got through it without her wrist getting any worse, and she seemed to be walking a little better. Hey. Maybe the week was starting to turn around?

By Thursday she was wearing a compression wrist brace and started knitting a little sock. So cute, right? Now after knitting for three days, it is starting to look cute, and I’m thinking that it could use a little grooming. Nope. The Mother of Cats keeps it zipped up in a project bag where I can’t get ahold of it. Don’t you think that the sock would look better if it was a little fluffy? As I’ve discussed before, the Mother of Cats is not good at sharing her things…

Do you see how I am sharing my chicken with Mateo? He’d better not groom it, though!!

This is Hannah, signing off.

>^..^<

Note from the Mother of Cats:

The beautiful sock yarn is from Spun Right Round and the color is called Ugly in the Morning. The name kind of fits the week. The background yarn is a black and white zebra twist yarn dyed in the colorway. Perfect, right? A zebra with lots of colors shining through. I’m making a pair of Scrunch Socks in this fun yarn, and every day I am able to knit a little more as my wrists recover and my flexibility returns. Yay for resiliency.

Talk about resiliency: My indoor roses are blooming!

  1. And a totally GLORIOUS rose for the finish ! 🙂

It’s terrific to learn that you’re on the improve, Marilyn – Good News Week ! Being unable to knit must indeed have caused Great General Grumpiness, as Hannah has said.

Oh, sorry again, you gorgeous tuxedo moggy !!! I’m slightly concerned that Mateo has indeed created some … ahh … groomed bits on the ESC; are you able to groom over them ? [grin]

Somewhat amazing, all that snow, MoC !!!

How good must your wrist-brace be ?! – yay for support things. 😀

    1. The rose is looking good! I’m glad that I was able to bring them inside and that they aren’t under all of that snow at the moment. 🙂

Hannah seems to be just compelled to groom knitted goods. I have to keep her away from my sweaters or crazy little fuzz patches will appear. Her little kitted pika is just one ball of fuzz now. I gave her the chicken made from the same yarn hoping that she would be happy to groom it and maybe that will satisfy her need. She is a spoiled, spoiled girl.

It is a lot of snow. Thank heavens it is now melting fast.

  2. I’m happy you’re having fun knitting again and that your body is mostly cooperating. It seems that the cats are cooperating, too, except for the whiskery whiners going on about missing tuna one night.

What a load of snow! When I looked on Ventusky the other day to check on Rafael’s progress (family in coastal Texas), rain bands flipping off that hurricane were trailing across Colorado in the form of snow showers. Yikes! It seems too early. I don’t know about you, but my brain hasn’t transitioned from summer yet. I have to admit that when I saw that foot or so of snow on your patio furniture, my hands were itching to take my leaf blower to it to see if it would make short work of clearing it off because it looked dry enough to do so. Yeah, I know. Weird.

Beautiful sock and a lovely rose. Not only are you surrounded by happy colors, but you share them with us, lifting our spirits, as well. Thank you for that. It’s well timed.

    1. This was a pretty heavy snow for this time of the year. I never made the connection to Rafael, but I’m pretty sure that is what it was since it was a completely an eastern plains event and the other side of the Rockies got nothing. We’re lucky that it came in after most of the leaves were off the trees.

There in no way a leaf blower could made a dent in that snow!! It froze hard and then packed down. Yesterday I was relieved to see that it was only 3 inches on the front walk until I discovered that it was three inches of solid heavy slush. Ugh. That stuff is really heavy!!

Today my wrists are even better and I am looking forward to evening knitting!

      1. Yes to your wrists being okay enough for you to knit tonight! May the slush continue until it’s evaporated. As for Rafael, the Ventusky interactive map was visually self-explanatory. That’s a great tool to use if you’re wondering why, how, what, where, how much, or when to do with the weather any place on the globe. So far, it doesn’t include the moon, though that may come.

  3. That’s great news about being able to knit now. It looks like Mateo is just casually without anyone noticing touching the chicken…almost like a human sibling touching another’s treasured item. It’s a shame the snow needs sweeping, I’m sure that makes it less exciting but I love snow ❄️ ❤️

    1. He did have his paw on the chicken! I’m thinking about sweeping snow… sometimes I can do that, but this stuff froze hard and was pretty heavy. Bad snow, bad!! Today the sun is out and it is melting pretty quickly and the streets are drying out.

  4. Well of course kitties need emotional support too. How thoughtful of you to notice! (Rowdy is jealous.)

True to form, we got only half as much snow up here as you got down there. You really got dumped on. Glad I didn’t have to go anywhere.

Love the rose. Reassuring to see that even after a week like this, a rose will still bloom and bring beauty to the world.

    1. I was shocked when I saw how much we got! I’m glad that the leaves dropped off the tree ahead of this storm because it would have brought down lots of branches.

Now my cats are fighting over the chicken. So much for emotional support…

  5. WOW!!! That’s a lot of snow. I don’t think we have ever gotten that much snow except in a blizzard many years ago. That much snow would bring Cincinnati to a dead halt. I can’t imagine dealing with all that snow with sore knees and wrists. How fun – a chicken for the kitty.

    1. I am very lucky in my neighbors. Last year my old, not so great neighbors moved away, and the new neighbors are insisting on removing most of the snow for me. They even bring up my garbage cans!! I only had to do the walk to the front door which helped a lot.

There was so much snow that Denver had to bring out the residential snow plows. We are pretty good at handling snow here and have designated snow routes that are kept cleared, but the Interstate highways got closed so you couldn’t really get out of the Denver metro area. It has been a while since we had this much snow.

  6. Oh my goodness! That is a rough week, and a lot of snow! I am so glad MoC is feeling somewhat better. And lucky Hannah with her own chicken to emotionally support you and be groomed!

  7. You’re been having a rough time of it lately—I’m glad you’re able to knit again! And luck Hannah (and Mateo) for getting a chicken! You were very nice to share with them. (Yeah, I know, it was probably self-defense… 😉 )

  8. I’m glad you’re improving enough to knit. Knitting is so soothing!

Very kind of you to give up an ESC to Hannah (and Mateo). Is she the alpha? Bisquee (Biscuit) has only to look at Calvin, and he moves away from whatever it is that she’s claiming as hers.

    1. Well, the cat relationship is kind of hard to understand. For three years the kitten (Mateo) just terrorized Hannah and took all of her toys. She pretty much hid for an entire year and gained a lot of weight. Now she is smacking him around, running and playing with him, and back to her alpha self. She is also twice his size! Lately he has been giving her head bumps and leaning on her.

  9. I’m sorry your wrists and knees are betraying you. You are so resilient! I can’t believe you’ve had to deal with snow and a leak along with everything else. Your kitties are a delight. How nice to provide a support chicken and a cardboard box. That’s cat nirvana right there.

    1. I’m slowly getting better and have been knitting a little off and on. The chicken came out of the cardboard box last night when Mateo started trying to rip it open. Poor chicken! She is now safely on a high shelf.
