Hi. I’m Hannah.

The Mother of Cats has taken down the sweater that was in time out (I wish that Mateo was in time out… he has been annoying all day!!) and started knitting on it again. She was a little worried about coming back to a project after so many months, but it turned out to be kind of easy for her because she had made so many notes on the pattern and even made a big knitting aid to help her keep track of the yarn colors, the pattern, and the decreases on the sleeves.

Anyway, she spent the week knitting away on the first sleeve and got it finished in the middle of the week. Here’s what it looks like:

She’s now working on the second sleeve and really worried about running out of one of the yarn colors. She keeps weighing the ball of yarn and saying things that I think are inappropriate for kitty ears under her breath. Poor Mother of Cats. I never stress. Well, I only stress a little. Okay, I am in the closet for hours every time a stranger comes to the door, but that is just good sense, right?

Anyways, the sweater is coming along well, and I think that it is one of the comfiest knits that she has made in a while. I just love taking naps on it!! Isn’t the color nice? It really makes my coat shine.

This is Hannah, signing off.

Notes from the Mother of Cats: That sweater is La Prairie by Joji Locatelli. I’m now in a rush to get it done before the first snow of the season. Next week is going to stay warm, so maybe I’ll pull this off!
After a phone call and then a few email exchanges with my cardiologist it was decided that I needed to wear a heart monitor for the next 30 days to rule out atrial fibrillation (AFib); evidently that is a systemic sclerosis thing, and I’m high risk to develop it because of other things going on with my heart. I did not see this coming, but it absolutely matches my symptoms.

That heart monitor is just fabulous!! The whole thing is taped on, I can wear it in the shower, and there are no leads to worry about coming loose. The monitor is blue toothed to a phone that I need to carry at all times, and it is transmitting to both the company that owns the monitor and my doctor. If I have another event while wearing it, I can send a message immediately to my doctor on the phone. Isn’t this technology fabulous? Of course, nothing has happened while I’ve been wearing the monitor, but I still have 28 days to go…

Ahoy there. Your heart monitor is a lot fancier than the one I had to wear (twice!). I am glad the cardiologist is checking it out. I am sorry that it is necessary at all. As a side note, tell Hannah that she is prettier than your absolutely stunning sweater. I am in awe of all that you do. I hope you have a lovely rest of the weekend.
x The Captain
It is a lot fancier than the one that I had to wear a few years ago!! My cardiologist is really great, so I hope that he can figure out what is going on with me.
Hannah: I am extremely photogenic!!
Love the colors of the sweater – they’re soothing! A couple of my friends have worn a heart monitor like that for a month – technology is really amazing! I hope it gives you and your cardiologist some answers.
Well, you are a pushover for purple, right? I have gone back and forth on these colors worrying that they wouldn’t work, and then becoming happy with them again. Right now I am very happy with the way they are working together.
Technology is just fantastic! I caught the problem on my Fitbit, and since I could send pictures of what it was saying to my cardiologist it made the problem clearer to him. Then we emailed several times as he eliminated some concerns… I answered at least one email using the bluetooth phone connection in my car. Then this heart monitor with the bluetooth connection to a smart phone and the little tiny leads: fabulous!!
You are indeed shiny, Hannah – shiny and beautiful. As always ! 🙂
But I have AF, Marilyn – at least, they found it once. And the result was putting me on a goddam blood thinner and ½ a beta blocker ! So now I must take FOUR pills every bloody day, and it maketh me mad. I’m going to tell my GP about your heart monitor and ask why I can’t have one.
The Joji jumper is wonderful: can scarcely wait to see the finished product so that the colour gradation is clear !
Why is Mateo annoying Hannah ? – no, I mean … what is he doing to annoy her ?
Hugs to you, MR. I mean, the burden of FOUR pills a day!!! (The zebra is rolling on the floor laughing its tail off) I had to go count my pill for a day and I gulp down 19 a day at this point, but I suspect that there will be some adjustments to my meds down the road. The heart monitor is just to capture the data to make the diagnosis… they are making me give it back after the 30 days.
I made a lot of progress on the 2nd sleeve this evening, so if my wrists behave themselves I should have it done in another week or so. Yay! Maybe I can show it off next post. This pattern has really been a challenge, but that is another post.
Mateo is annoying because he whaps at Hannah to wake her up, and he likes to run after her slashing at her heels. Lately she has asserted herself better and he is behaving better, but today he kept on trying to make her get up to play with him. Here’s the problem with Mateo: there isn’t enough play or toys in the universe to keep him occupied. Sometimes it is exhausting. I have two automated laser lights for him to chase and I keep one recharging at all times because he is a very needy little guy.
Yer right ! – my whinge is pathetic. Consider it withdrawn. [shamed blush]
I s’pose Mateo’s needs spring from his being a Maine Coon, right ? So he’s not only large and amazingly furry, but also largely and amazingly needy of … well, everything ! You sure decided to test yourself to the nth degree when you chose him, Marilyn !! 🙂
He is amazingly furry (well, he will be. Right now he is sporting his summer coat of shiny black fur. Soon this amazing grey undercoat will turn him into a fluff monster…), but I think that he is the world’s smallest Maine coon. There was another kitten in the same litter that was enormous, but I was worried that Hannah would be intimidated and got the little guy. Little did I know that he would have strong prey drive and an endless need for interaction/entertainment.
You know, Marilyn … I kinda think it’s a good thing to have him making demands; it forces you to be active where you normally wouldn’t. And while that’s not always welcome, it just might be keeping things going to a tiny degree. 🙂
Naw… I just make Hannah deal with him!
Let us hope that the monitor remains undisturbed – unless an event would be usefully informative
Oh Hannah your patience is commendable in the face of such annoyance from Mateo. Do his good looks make up for his annoyance? Your fur does look shiny and healthy as you snooze away on the jumper in progress. I hope that snazzy little heart monitor reports back something that can result in some help for your symptoms. I did laugh a little at MRs comment about taking 4 tablets a day, our dog takes 8 tablets for joint and thyroid issues, so I was confident you’d be taking at least double that.
Hannah: he is a lot of fun to run and play chase-chase with, so there is that. But he is still annoying!!
I am hoping that the heart monitor catches one of the “events” as they call them. I laughed at the 4 pills a day comment from MR too. My immunosuppressant is 6 pills a day, and then there are the others, so the count is 19/day right now. I had to buy a bigger pill case to accommodate the mass of morning pills… It would be worse but I dropped a couple of drugs last year.
The sweater looks great. Love the yarns so hope you don’t run out. Is that a note for a “cookie break”?? Love it. Congrats for being able to restart it after months off. Just love your blog posts. So funny. Good luck with the heart monitor. My hubby has dealt with AFib for probably 10 years. Probably means blood thinners. Kittys are going to have to be careful with their claws.
That was a note about a cookie break! Sometimes you need to record the fun, right?
Blood thinners? Oh, boy. I’m already covered in bruises, so who knows what he will decide to do. Looking forward to the fun. I do keep Mateo’s claws cut down.
Those notes on your sweater are totally Greek to me. Looks like a puzzle game or something. But the intricacy on that sleeve is gorgeous. And just in time. Suddenly ’tis the season, for the moment anyway. And my Rowdy, too, has decided it’s kitty kuddle season.
I don’t know squat about heart monitors, but I’d pictured maybe a strap around your chest holding some kind of device. What you have is really neat. Take care of yourself.
The notes make better sense if you can see the chart with the knitting pattern, but because of copyright issues I thought that it would be best to not post it. I’m so glad now that I made the chart when I worked on the first sleeve!
The heart monitor that I wore a few years ago was like the thing that they hook up in the hospital with the leads and lots of wires all going to a recording device that you wear. It was a nightmare. This little high tech device is sooo much better!
Yummy yarn, lovely sleeve pattern, handsome Mateo, silky Hannah. I’m glad you’re able to wear such a convenient-looking monitor that doesn’t look as if it would disrupt your day much. I always thought AF stood for aww, eff! 🙂 May your monitor bleeps be few.
Thank you, but I am hoping that the monitor does record good data. I did kind of say aww, eff when I read the email from my doctor. I seriously did not see that coming!
I hope the AF monitor finds anything there is to find (but I also hope there isn’t anything to find). (That’s my usual hope every time I have any work done at the doctor.)
The sweater is looking great! It’s definitely coming up on sweater weather, and I’m feeling the urge to cast on a new one.
We are going to have snow next week, so sweater weather is finally here! I’m really hoping that the monitor does find something as I’m hoping something can be done for my episodes of extreme breathlessness. My lungs are doing pretty good, so signs are pointing at my heart now.
Oooh, snow! I don’t live where there’s snow, but I love the idea of it. 🙂 Well, there’s obviously something to find, then, so I hope the monitor can point to something that has treatment options!
Snow is fun, but I’m always glad when it melts!!
I’m so glad the monitor is easy to wear and hope it is helpful! Your new sweater is just beautiful – it really does coordinate will with your sweet Hannah 🙂 Hope you win at yarn chicken and feel better!
