Hannah and the CoalBear: Purple Glam Caturday

Hi. We’re Hannah and Mateo (AKA the CoalBear).

We’ve been hanging out with the Mother of Cats today.

The Mother of Cats has been friskier lately. She’s been working with her indoor garden, and went shopping to buy a whole bunch of new flowers to put outside. She did a lot of cooking. She expanded the indoor garden and repotted a bunch of plants.

The indoor garden now has three shelves. The bottom shelf has the miniature rose, some lavender plants, and the seedlings. The middle shelf is mostly African violets and the baby fig trees. The top shelf is mostly orchids, but there are a couple of African violets up there too. We really like the new shelf and extra space, and Mateo especially is walking around among the plants keeping tabs on how they are doing. The Milkweed is growing great! The baby lavender seedlings are growing more leaves. The planted rose seeds: NOTHING!! The Mother of Cats also fixed up the catio some and has been reading outside with her morning coffee with us every morning. Things have been kind of great lately. She took some great photos of us.

Don’t we look great? The Mother of Cats says these are our glam shots.

The Mother of Cats then spoiled everything by going off and leaving us overnight while she visited her son. What is up with that?

While she was gone, she read this book about dragons and made two PICC line covers with yarns that have dragon colors: the green is called Green Dragon and the purple is called Purple Dragon. How come she went playing with dragons and left us alone? Did the dragons get OUR TUNA?

We absolutely were not surprised to see that she knitted with a purple yarn while she was away. Everything has been kind of purple lately.

Her new sweater (which is kind of purple) is getting longer. It is so big it covers her legs and Hannah while she’s knitting on it. Hannah really like the sweater and want one of her own.

The Mother of Cats say that the name of the sweater is La Prairie. What a crazy name, right, but the Mother of Cats likes it because we live right at the edge of the prairie and that is why there are so many wild things in our yard.

Her weaving is getting bigger and now the weft has changed to a purple color. The CoalBear likes to whap at the purple yarn while the Mother of Cats is moving the shuttle back and forth.

So, there seems to be a lot of purple lately. Enough with the purple and the Mother of Cats. It’s time to talk about us, right. After all, it is Caturday!!! Look at how big our bunny is getting in the back yard. You can barely see it in the first shot of us watching it (it hangs out at the bottom of the tree) so the Mother of Cats took a closeup of the bunny. Look! It looks just like the tree! What a clever bunny! Besides the bunnies, there are lots of birds and GRASSHOPPERS outside and it is kind of exciting on the catio now. The Mother of Cats even moved out some plants for us.

So, that’s about all. Guess it is time for us to go pester the Mother of Cats to get up and play with us. She’s been more active lately, but we still like to keep her busy taking care of us. Hannah is pretty sure that we need TUNA because we were left alone one night last week.

But first we are going to grab another nap… Did you notice that our blanket is purple?

This is Hannah and Mateo, signing off.

Happy Caturday, everyone!!

  1. You must be the best cared-for kitties in the world, you two. What a marvellous life you have. I do hope you show the MoC how grateful you are, and not just pester her for tuna !!

Marilyn, it’s bloody wonderful to hear of all your activities ! – means you’re not down there, but up here ! :D Because it’s not possible for you to be so busy when one or other ghastly ailment is afflicting you – breath and being able to keep it going being the most vital thing, eh ?

You’re doing so well with the photos of these spoiled children – talk about glam shots !!

Did you see Jones— erhm … Jones— nup, it’s no good: I simply can’t keep his whole name in my head. But you most certainly know to whom I refer ! [grin]

The Locatelli jumper is looking like we all knew it would – namely, gorgeous. You’re such a talented knitter !

    1. I am doing better now after a month of iron supplements; it’s like I suddenly woke up with a clear head and more energy. My face is less blue, and some symptoms are just gone. I was able to go with my son to his medical appointments without oxygen, and that was huge! The glam shots just happened… I suddenly noticed that a cat was in great light and I snapped the picture!

I did see Jonesy while up at my son’s, and he is looking so happy these days with his two new kitten companions. All three of them lined up for tuna together: a happy little pack of boys.

I was so worried about the fit of the sweater I put it off for some time, but now it is clear that it is going to be fabulous so I am knitting like a demon and worrying about running out of yarn. You know, I learned to knit at 8, so I should be good after all these years. 🙂 I had someone accuse me of trying to pass off store bought knitted goods as handknitting once, and that was the best compliment ever!

      1. I know, right. While I was knitting in the waiting room at the doctor’s last week a lady came to talk to me about the knitting, and said that it looked boring. (It was a PICC line cover, so yeah… boring). I just laughed at her and told her that this was a boring place, so it got boring knitting. My exciting stuff was safe at home. Some people shouldn’t be let out in public…

  2. Thank you both, Hannah and the CoalBear for taking over the writing and letting Mother get on with gardening and knitting. That bunny is making good camouflage out of the tree.

  3. Hannah and CoalBear – your Mother is certainly taking good care of you two. She’s getting the catio ready for you both so you can keep watch over the bunnies. I hope that you got your tuna for being such good kitties.

Marilyn – I am so happy to read that you are feeling well enough to do all of your favorite things! Your La Prairie is really looking beautiful. I love Joji’s patterns, but I have been on the fence about this one. You might be changing my mind.

    1. Hannah and Mateo: We did get extra tuna the minute she came home after abandoning us for over a whole day!!!!!
I think that the iron supplement is making a difference because all of a sudden I have energy and symptoms are better (and my face is less blue!). I just love Joji’s patterns, and I like this type of sweater in general, but I wasn’t sure about doing a fade with all of the action in the fabric of the sweater (waves, bobbles, you name it!!) This is a slow knit because of all of that, but I am at the point where I’m really happy that I’m doing it and I can’t help looking for more 5 skein fade sequences when shopping online in different yarn stores. Maybe another one without the bobbles. Or maybe, modify the bobbles somehow…

  4. So much activity! I’m glad you two are there to supervise everything. MoC is making me feel like an absolute slug. You two see that she stays out of trouble, okay?

    1. MofC: Well, I’m reporting on two weeks of stuff, but I am getting a lot more done for sure. That iron supplement stuff is just great, let me tell you!!!
Hannah and Mateo: we keep our eyes on her at all times, especially when she is heading towards the kitchen…

    1. I am really happy with the indoor garden at the moment. I bought cheap pine wood shelves at a home improvement center, and then spray painted it green. I didn’t even bother to sand it. Because it is wood, it was easy to attach the grow lights with screws and then all the lights are on a timer. Over the years I’ve moved the shelves up or down to accommodate different plants, but this is the first time I’ve gotten lights on all three shelves.

You can neve go wrong with purple, right?

  5. Well it’s an other gorgeous purple post to enjoy. Thanks for keeping us updated on what the MoC has been up to and how you’ve both been super helpful. Your coats are looking gorgeous must be all that delicious tuna she spoils you with.

    1. I thought of you when I put together the pictures for the post and realized that there was sooo much purple. Purple is the best, right, but I have to admit that raspberry is my all time favorite color.
The cats are looking really good right now; I think that it is the tuna. I started feeding them the tuna treat every morning a year ago, and their coats just shine now.

      1. Well that’s spooky I’ve just arranged yesterday to meet up with a lady who sells the New Lanark Yarn to see if she has any reds I like in it. She has one called Raspberry…I feel this could be a sign 😂🤣

  6. I think we’re all ready for a bit of springtime in our lives right now. I am sure the Dynamic Duo have been LOVING their outdoor time! I am excited to see La Prairie all knit up – I love those colors you picked!

Did you finish all of Fallen Night?

    1. I have a lot of Fallen Night to go! Now that it is nicer outside I’m going out with the kitties and reading on the deck with my morning latte and hopefully I’ll get it finished in the next week or so.

  7. I love all the purple! The sweater and the weaving both look great. And I’m going to pretend that the baby lavender plant already has purple blossoms, too. Though there’s no pretending that the bunny is purple. It camouflages with the tree too well to be purple.

  8. Hannah & Matteo, those are some pretty glam shots for sure! You both look wonderful, surely from all the outside time and the TUNA!
Marilyn, so glad you are feeling peppier! It look like spring is springing there 🙂

    1. It is getting more like spring here. I planted some hardy flowers outside and I’m already laying plans to visit the nursery again.
Hannah and Mateo: wait until you see the next set of glam shots!!
