Almost Christmas Caturday

Hi. I’m Hannah.

It was the week before Christmas, and the Mother of Cats has been kind of busy. She had presents to finish up, packages to mail, cookies to bake, and some cleaning to get done. She didn’t put up a tree this year because of the Mateo menace, but there are fun lights all over the place. Yay, I kind of like Christmas because of ALL THE PAPERS and the boxes.

The Mother of Cats also spent some time sewing on her placemats, and she managed to get three tops finished. Now she needs to get them quilted and finished, but that is for next week. I helped her with the sewing because I’m such a good girl. The best girl ever. I should have some more tuna, right?

I also helped the Mother of Cats with her knitting. We are trying out a kind of experiment with the Alpine Bloom hat. The pattern is Alpine Bloom, but the Mother of Cats is knitting it with the same stitch count and needles that she uses to knit a Barley Light that fits her pretty well. What do you think of our progress?

This hat is 120 stitches being knit on size 2 (2.75 mm) and 4 (3.5 mm) needles. The yarns are La Bien Aimee Merino Super Sock and Crazy Zauberball by Schoppel-Wolle. The Mother of Cats is hopeful that the hat will fit, but we haven’t checked that yet. It’s like an adventure.

Tonight it has just started snowing outside, and the Mother of Cats is happy that we are going to have a White Christmas. The CoalBear has been outside playing in the white stuff, but I don’t like cold snow on my paws because…

I’m too cute for snow!!

Well, that’s about all for now. The Mother of Cats spent the day cleaning and cooking, and now it is time for her to settle down with a nice book so I can cuddle and hang out with her. Maybe we can snack on a Christmas cookie or two.

This is Hannah, signing off.

Mateo the CoalBear: Merry Christmas, everyone. Have fun with your trees!!

  1. Hannah, you have grown more beautiful with each year ! You really are a VERY good-looking mog ! HC to you. And to Mateo, of course ..
Marilyn, nothing seems to even slow you down. You’re exemplary. Have I said that before ? – probably. It’s still true. 😀 Have a lovely festive season, and here’s hoping nothing flares up !!

    1. Hannah: the MOC says that I get more beautiful every single year! Mateo gets more silly, but I love him anyway.
Oh, I follow the doctrine of just keep on trucking… I make a list of things that need to get done, and then I try to get at least a couple taken care of every day or so. That provides an illusion of forward progress, even if it takes days to get a big job done, So far, I’m doing better and the flare is still behaving itself.

    1. This zauberball is doing better than I expected with that pastel pinky/purple. I love this color, but I have really struggled with what color to pair it with for a couple of years. I’m glad that this is working.

  2. Wow! Gorgeous hat! Love the colors and also the sunflower fabric in the placemats. Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

    1. I’m so glad that I attempted the hat; if it doesn’t fit I’m going to keep it and put it on my teddy bear in the sewing room. I bought that sunflower fabric with you at a little quilt store north of Broomfield. Merry Christmas.

      1. I sure don’t remember that! – buying the sunflower fabric. Your memory is a lot better than mine.

  3. Well, hello, Hannah. You are a very good girl indeed! Your mama’s projects look lovely. I think the idea of handmade placements is something I’ll add to my project list. The hat is stunning in that colorway. Give Mateo my love, and may your Christmas be Merry and Bright!

    1. Hannah: I am the BEST girl ever! I gave Mateo a head bump and told him it was from you. >^..^<
Handmade placemats are really nice and easy projects. I looked at lots of ideas and patterns online, and then just measured a placemat that I had to get the size and made a simple one featuring the sunflower fabric that I liked. I'm really happy with the hat, and the way the colors are coming out it is really engaging.

  4. CoalBear likes to go out in the snow?? That seems very un-feline. Hmm
The hat is gorgeous. I’ve no idea how one blends colors like that, but it’s delicious!
    Merry Christmas, y’all

    1. CoalBear is a rescue cat, but he seems to be some kind of Maine coon and his fur it unbelievable. He has fur on the bottom of his paws! He can be completely covered in snow and seems to be just fine; never gets wet at all. Hannah is a different story and doesn’t like the snow on her paws at all.
The colors in that hat are from the yarn. It is called Crazy Zauberball (a German yarn) and it is a marled yarn with long color changes. I just knit along and the magic happens. I got lucky on the placement as I didn’t try to plan anything. Merry Christmas!!

      1. That yarn is really amazing. It looked so carefully planned, and I had visions of you somehow changing yarns several times. Magic!

My Rowdy is a rescue, but he was only 8 weeks old when I got him and I don’t think he was ever outside. I’ve a hunch he wouldn’t care for it, at least not in winter.

      2. My two are also rescues that were adopted as kittens. They had never been outside until I built them their catio. Now they are fans of bunnies, moths, and birds. Squirrels, not so much.

  5. Merry Christmas to the Mother of Cats and her charming, mischievous, devil-may-care companions of the four-footed variety. Reading, knitting, snuggling, and eating cookies sounds like a good way to celebrate a white Christmas. xo

  6. Merry Christmas to you, Mother of Cats, and also to Hannah and Mateo! Glad you have been having such good adventures getting ready for Christmas, and Hannah, you definitely deserve some tuna for being such a good sewing helper 🙂

    1. Hannah: I know, right? The Mother of Cats wouldn’t be able to do al this stuff without me!
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you and yours too, and I hope that the New Year is good to you.
